Nussle Reaffirms Commitment to Achieving World Class Education in Iowa

Today, Iowa Republican gubernatorial candidate Jim Nussle released the following statement:

"My priority is to have Iowa set the standard for world class education, and that starts by raising teacher pay above the national average. I will continue to work with parents, teachers, principals and education professionals to ensure Iowa's students are receiving a strong, quality education to meet the changing demands of the 21st Century workforce.

"As a parent of two teenagers, I believe Iowa's education system must achieve more and that starts with standards and accountability. As Governor, I will work to ensure more reliable and more predictable funding for education so we have the best and brightest teachers in the classrooms teaching our children. We also must empower parents to be more involved in their child's education and encourage more student and teacher interest in the career fields of tomorrow. Our children must be prepared with the right learning tools so they can pursue unlimited opportunities in the future," Nussle concluded.

The last time the Iowa teacher's union endorsed a Republican candidate for governor was incumbent Terry Branstad in 1990.
